Singing Tin Roof Blues

Have you ever slept in a room just under a gabled roof that was metal? It is a unique and musical experience during a storm. In the absence of thunderclaps and lightning strikes to that roof (which can abruptly wake you up in terror, I might add), rain on one of these metal rooftops can lull you to sleep. It’s a magical experience. One of my favorite hotels in Cape May, NJ has a metal roof. I’ve slept in one of their third-floor rooms during a rainstorm several times. FYI: I have many fond memories of vacations at the Chalfont Hotel.

This historic hotel has a long history of providing entertainment on Tuesday nights. My husband’s brass group played there often in the late 1980’s through the 1990’s; now they perform there but one time per year. Their set will often close with one of my favorites in their repertoire, Tin Roof Blues.

Here’s the Canadian Brass’ version of Tin Roof Blues:

Thanks for reading, y’all and indulging me with a walk down memory lane.

A little bit about me:

Industrial-Organizational Psychology occupied my time in the private and government sectors for about 26 years before being called to teaching in the last 10 years of my career. It was the best career move that I ever made, even though the compensation was less and the work hours longer!

I write here at Medium, mostly for my own amusement and to share some of the insights I’ve garnered in my working and personal lives. I am a wife, mother, and caretaker of four-legged creatures for over forty years; a house is not a home without a least one cat or dog! Some of the best life-lessons were taught by the many dogs and cats with whom I’ve shared my life here on mother earth.
